Helping ambitious women in technology manage their career with confidence and purpose

10th May 2020

The importance of mindset to get ahead in your career

This is one of a series of articles discussing the 9 key elements you need to get complete career confidence.

Want to apply for promotion but worried you’re going to get rejected?

Want to ace the job interview but you keep remembering the last one that went so badly wrong?

Want to take on more responsibility at work but you don’t know if you’re cut out for leadership?

I’m telling you now.

To get ahead in your career, you’ve got to stop thinking those negative thoughts and instead develop a success mindset.

And that’s what we’re going to explore today.

Success mindset is one of the 9 key elements that I teach in my Complete Career Confidence accelerator programme.

Complete Career Confidence has evolved from 100s of hours of coaching and teaching ambitious women who wanted to get from confusion to clarity, and from overwhelm to confidence.

I created this programme so that you can develop the success mindset you need to manage your career with confidence and purpose. That will allow you to make decisions and take action. And it’s the taking action that gets results!

Let’s dive into how to develop success mindset.

The importance of mindset to get ahead in your career

To get ahead in your career, it’s essential to have the right mindset: a success mindset.

Lots of coaches and personal development gurus talk about mindset, but what exactly do they mean?

Your mindset is the collection of thoughts, actions and beliefs that shape your thinking. In turn this affects what you feel, how you behave and therefore the results you get.

It’s a chain reaction … your thoughts and your beliefs will evoke emotions or feelings.

What you feel, will determine how you behave. In other words, what you say or do.

Your behaviour and your actions is what gets results.

Whether you get the results you want, will depend on the thoughts and beliefs that underpin your feelings.

Simple then. Fix your thoughts. Fix your feelings. Take different actions. Get different results.

That’s where it gets tricky.

Very often we are not aware of our thoughts and beliefs; they are unconscious. We have thousands of thoughts going through our heads every day yet we are mostly unaware of them.

Negative thinking and fear limits your actions and therefore your success.

How to develop a success mindset and get ahead in your career

Here are three things you can do to start developing the success mindset you need to get ahead in your career:

  • Start noticing your negative thoughts. Notice what you notice.
  • Identify any unhelpful beliefs you hold and replace them with positive beliefs. Write down the positive beliefs and read them out loud every day.
  • Developing a success mindset on your own can be hard. Check out the Complete Career Confidence accelerator programme to join a community of like-minded women and work on your success mindset together.

Pop a note in the comments. I’d love to hear how you get on. And in the next article we’ll explore Balance.

p.s. Complete Career Confidence starts again Monday 18 May and when you sign up before 14 May you get 50% discount as well as £346 of Early Bird bonuses.
