This is a poem that I commissioned last year for The Confident Mother Christmas advent calendar sent to all the mums on my mailing list. Enjoy.
Mother
Their first words, their first steps, make you cry with joy.
How their eyes brighten at the thought of a new toy.
When they go to school, you don’t grow apart,
They bring home pictures that they’ve made in Art.
No matter what, you’ll always be their mother,
Because you’re special and like no other.
Yes there are others but to them, you’re the best.
You’d get top marks if there was a mother test.
You’ll never be mean or give them a smack,
Because you love them, and they love you back.
No matter the age, daughter or son,
They’ll always love you, because you’re their mum.
