This is a question that my small business clients ask me ALL THE TIME. Yes honestly. Not surprisingly, you’re not the only person to ask this question.
And in typical coaching fashion, in response, I ask my clients “What does a “successful business woman” mean to you?”
We all want to know how to create a successful business and how to be a successful business woman. However our definition of “success” varies enormously.
So often people say to me in awe “Wow Sherry you’re so successful. You’ve been quoted in the Evening Standard and the Mirror, you’ve worked with Dr Christian Jessen, you’ve had an article in City AM, you’ve published a book, you’ve run three online conferences, you’ve appeared on Sky News and BBC Radio so many times….”
And yet ….
And yet I don’t feel that successful.
My definition of “successful” is different to yours.
The thing is, overnight success very rarely happens “overnight”. Most of us, no matter the industry or field, work hard for weeks, months even years before we achieve success.
Do I get success envy? Hell, yes I do. Another business friend once said to me “Sherry you don’t have a single ounce of envy in your body“.
Actually she was wrong. I am envious of other successful business women. I envy their “success” in the same way as people envy my “success”. Being seen as successful is not the same as actually being successful. Success in terms of PR and marketing, is not the same as success in terms of finance and income.
One business woman might be absolutely flat out servicing her clients and yet have no time for herself and her family; another business woman might be fully booked in terms of clients and sales but she might not be making a profit. Or maybe there’s that little inner voice in her head, that inner critic, telling her that “she’s not good enough” to be successful.
When I talked about success with my friend Sue Revell, we realised that we both regularly work with clients who tell us that they are ‘so close’, they can feel or smell success – maybe even touch it. The more we thought about it, the more we realised there is a tipping point in every big decision, every big leap and every small tweak to achieve success.
That conversation prompted us to want to do something about it. It started with a podcast and now we’re going LIVE!
From 27 November to 8 December, On The Tipping Point LIVE! will hear from 12 successful female entrepreneurs and inspirational business leaders as they share their personal story of what it takes to get beyond the tipping point!
To be honest, we were BLOWN AWAY when every single one of our invited speakers said Yes!
Join us here to find out how to be a successful business woman. I’m pretty sure that each speaker has their own definition of success; that it’s rarely “overnight”; and that for some of our speakers, their success tipping points will have been a tiny tweak and for others a big leap.
We’d love you to join us for our online conference here. Do sign up today. You might just discover that one small adjustment that you need to get beyond the tipping point of success.
