From shipyard to nutrition
This week’s business startup story is from Astrid Brossier who relocated to France and then set up her business Eat Better to Live Better. Over to Astrid.
Introductions
My name is Astrid, I’m from France, I arrived in Portsmouth last August. I’m an entrepreneur and mother of two, starting over in a new country and launching a new business at the same time.
Background
I was a commercial assistant in a ship yard. I was leaving my kids at school from 8am to 6pm. Even though I really liked my job, I didn’t feel acknowledged or valued. Due to short deadlines and work overload, I ended up with an unmanageable stress that was very toxic to my health.
My husband and I sat down: one thing became clear. We were losing ourselves in a manic life. We needed a life change. We looked at our priorities. We wanted to spend more quality time with our kids. I wanted to be my own boss, be flexible and work my hours around my kids.
Life is well-made, as I came across a business opportunity and decided to take it. That was it! My husband and I took action. In a few months, I quit my full time job to run my own business in France while other half found an opportunity in Portsmouth in April 2015. I finished school with the kids and we came to join him in Portsmouth in August 2015.
Your business
So here I am, running my own business called Eat Better to Live Better. I’m a coach in balanced nutrition and sport nutrition. I help people to lose weight, stay fit, gain weight, and improve sport performance. I tailor personalised programmes to fit my client’s needs. I coach people to guarantee long lasting results using the NoYoYo method, based on the 3 wells:
– well eating
– well exercising
– well being
Why Energy diet is different to any other diet product on the market: All the flour can be included in recipes that require cooking, which means you can put them in cakes, pancakes, soups, dough, sauce but can also be included in recipes that require no cooking, such as smoothies and shakes. This versatility makes fitting it into a daily diet plan incredibly simple and ensures you don’t get bored of eating the same old things.
What you enjoy about your business
I really enjoy watching people succeed, rise, and feel good about themselves. I also like to be in charge of my own schedule and get the flexibility I need.
I also give some French conversation courses. I really enjoy watch people progress.
What are the challenges
The challenges I’m facing is to make myself and my business known. I want to build relationships based on trust and not only on selling.
I also have a role of education, to make people realise that balanced nutrition is very important for their health. That we are losing all the nutrients present in the fruit and vegetables, compare to 50 years ago, due to intensive farming. For example, to get the same nutrients there were in an orange 50 years ago, we need to eat 8 of those today.
What you wished you’d known at the start
Someone wise told me that if you’re not ready to do something, it’s actually time for you to do it! You have nothing to lose, except the regret of not giving it a try and wonder the rest of your life how would it be.
