Feeling a bit stuck in your career?
Reached a crossroads and not sure which path to take?
Wondering whether there’s an easier way to get noticed and get promoted?
From the 100s of women I’ve worked with, and from my own career, I’ve figured out that there are 9 key elements that you need to focus on to get ahead in your career.
Over time I realised that while a few women are brilliant at focusing on all of these, for most of us, we’re moderately good at 2 or 3 of these elements, and way off the mark for the rest.
And that’s why I set to work and created my Complete Career Confidence accelerator programme.
I want to help even more women get the confidence they need to make decisions and take action.
Even when it feels scary.
I want you to feel powerful so you can create a life of independence and happiness.
Today I’d like to share those 9 elements that you need to focus on.
How to get ahead in your career
The 9 key elements are
- Ambition
- Contribution
- Purpose
- Success mindset
- Balance
- Impact
- Leverage
- DIScomfort zone
- Strategy
Over the next nine posts I’m going to explore each one of these 9 elements in turn. We’ll start today with Ambition.
Ambition
First you’ve got to get clear on your career goals. If you don’t know where you’re headed, how are you going to get there?
But you also need to get comfortable about being ambitious. It’s OK to want to get ahead. It doesn’t mean that you’re not a good mum or good partner or good daughter.
Sometimes it feels like ambition is a bit of a dirty word.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having ambition.
To get clear on your ambition, ask yourself these questions.
Where do you see you and your career in five years time? What about in one year? And what are the smaller milestones to focus over the next 3 to 6 months.
But it’s not just what you want and where you’re going. It’s WHY you want it.
What does getting promoted give you? What does a pay rise give you? What does a new job give you? What does it allow you to do?
And WHY is it important?
Is it about freedom, independence, fun, happiness?
Tap into the emotions and feelings behind the goal.
Why do you want to get promoted? More status, more recognition? more money, more confidence, more experience?
And why’s that important?
If it’s about money, what do you want that money for? What does it allow you to do?
If it’s about flexibility, what does that flexibility and freedom give you?
There’s more to ambition than you might think.
Ambition on its own is worthless without getting clear on WHY you want to get ahead in your career.
