How to improve your job hunt using keywords

This week I’m going to share 5 essentials that you need to get right on your LinkedIn profile to help you get a new job or attract career opportunities.

Today we’ll start with KEYWORDS.

How to improve your job hunt using keywords

To improve your job hunt chances and to increase the number of times your LinkedIn profile gets found, you need to get clear on your keywords.

Why worry about keywords?

Because keyword searches are the most common way to find job candidates. Recruiters rely on the LinkedIn algorithms to show them the most relevant profiles based on the keywords they search on.

Keywords are not just for website SEO. Keywords are key to your personal SEO.

So what is a keyword?

Keywords are job titles or skills that you want to be known for.

The right keywords need to be sprinkled – like confetti – in your headline, your summary and your experience.

The way to figure out the right keywords to use is to think as if you were the recruiter wanting to recruit someone like you.

What would they put in the search box?

e.g. “business analyst” “stakeholder engagement” “learning & development specialist” “blended learning”

Not sure what keywords to use?

Look at job descriptions. What are the key skills they’re looking for?

Look at your CV – what is the experience and expertise you want to showcase?

5 essentials to get right on your LinkedIn profile

Today was the first in a series of 5 posts exploring the essentials that you need to get right on your LinkedIn profile to help you get a new job or attract career opportunities.

Tomorrow we’ll focus on your LinkedIn headline.

Great post and advice. Thinking strategically about how we frame our keyword search for success on our LinkedIn profiles. Aligning industry standard messaging with our CV/resumes is essential. I look forward to additional posts on this topic!
