How to jump aboard the Great Resignation train

Maybe you want to get on board the so-called Great Resignation train and get yourself a new job in 2022?

In which case, you are not the only one!

According to a survey published by Randstad, 69% are feeling confident about moving to a new role in the next few months, with 24% of those surveyed planning a change within three to six months. Most years, we’d expect around 11% of workers to move jobs so that’s a BIG increase, hence it’s being dubbed the ‘Great Resignation’ in the press.

A previous survey published by Microsoft suggested 41% of us plan to change jobs and research by Personio suggests that 38% of us are planning to quit in the next six to 12 months.

All this is great news for me as one of the UK’s leading job search coaches – more people moving jobs means more people need my expert support and professional insights on how to become the stand out candidate for your dream job or want me to handhold and guide them through the job interview process. And it’s work that I LOVE doing! So it’s a win-win.

If you’re joining the Great Resignation train and you want a first class ticket to your dream job, let’s talk today to find out how I can support you!

This week, I’m developing a couple of workshops for non-profit organisations. One is on How To Supercharge Your Job Search and the other one is How To Nail Your Job Interview and Become The Stand Out Candidate so I thought I’d share my simple six step Job Search Confidence plan if you want to change jobs in the next few months.

Six steps to job search confidence

  1. Clarity – get clear on exactly what you want (industry, job title, work model, salary etc) and what you have to offer i.e. your innate talents, skills and experience – if you’re struggling on what your most valuable skills are, ask friends or colleagues for feedback
  2. Visibility – get visible on LinkedIn and polish your profile showcasing the best of your skills and experience so you start to attract more of the ideal career opportunities – remember that many jobs never get advertised and are filled through networking so getting visible on LinkedIn is fundamental to your job search success
  3. Presentation – focus on creating a professional presentation on your CV so that you are in the best position to put yourself on top of the YES pile for your dream job, using the right keywords and keeping it in alignment with your LinkedIn profile
  4. Preparation – the next stage is to get fully prepared for the all important job interview so that you present yourself with absolute confidence and ease, which means your skills and experience shine through (and I’ve got some fabulous resources here to help you do that) – that means doing the research on the company and identifying the core competencies required so that you know exactly how to tackle the toughest of job interview questions
  5. Mindset – when we’re job hunting, it’s so easy to get in our own way and question our skills, experiences and value. Your noisy inner critic makes it hard so it’s important to notice what you notice about any negative thoughts when job hunting so you can reframe these and put your best self forward
  6. Balance – the final piece in my six step Job Search Confidence plan is balance because job hunting can be overwhelming, frustrating and stressful. It’s important to get balance by prioritising your self-care, building your resilience and creating clear boundaries so you are better equipped to overcome the inevitable job search setbacks with patience and strength.

I cover this simple six step plan in my online Job Search Confidence course but you’ll also find more fabulous articles and resources on job hunting with confidence here.
