The Confident Mother

Helping ambitious women in technology fully unlock their leadership potential

8th December 2021

How to make 2022 your best year ever!

JUST imagine if 2022 was your best year yet.

Your best year for goals.

Your best year for targets.

Your best year for your career.

What would that do for you and your family? What would it allow you to do, be or have? Where could you go?

There’s no doubt that the past couple of years have been very strange.

We’ve done so much online that we never imagined a few months ago. We’ve engaged in very different conversations to what we might have anticipated in 2020 and 2021.

We had to change our priorities very rapidly – put things on hold and accelerate others.

That can be challenging. Sometimes it knocks our confidence. Or makes us cautious because we don’t know what’s round the corner.

Looking ahead, we may not be fully out of lockdown and homeworking for a while yet.

So if you want 2022 to be the best year ever for you and your career, you need to be proactive and choose to manage your career in 2022 with confidence and purpose.

Get proactive to manage your career with confidence and purpose

In order to be proactive, first get clear on what you want. Sometimes that’s hard in the every day busyness of life and work.

What can be really powerful is to take time out to focus ON your career rather than only being busy IN your career. Your personal development as well as your career development is so important.

It’s good for you, it’s good for your employer and it’s good for your family.

I suggest you block out dedicated time in your diary. Two hours would be fabulous. Even one hour will be helpful.

Somewhere you won’t be disturbed.

Go somewhere you don’t normally spend ‘work’ time to open your mind to possibilities.

You could try visiting your local cafe or sit in a different part of the building or house. You could take yourself for a walk?

Grab pen & paper if you’re sitting down. Or a voice recorder if you’re out walking.

Use the reflection prompts below to reflect on what you have and what you want from your career in 2022.

Reflection prompts to make 2022 your best year ever

  • on a scale of 1 to 10, how do I feel about my career right now?
  • what have I done really well over the past 12 months?
  • what am I proud of?
  • what do I love doing and want to do more of?
  • what do I want to stop doing?
  • how am I going to make this happen?
  • when do I want to achieve this?
  • what support do I need?
  • what might get in the way and how can I prevent that happening?

When you take time to focus on and prioritise your career goals, you will feel so much clearer which means you make better decisions, get more creative and more productive.

The next step is to take action

Once you’ve reflected on what you want, the next step is to TAKE ACTION.

That doesn’t mean taking all the actions all at once. Pick one to get started with. Set aside time to do it.

Then do it!

And if you get stuck at any stage of this process to make 2022 your best year ever, let’s talk. Sometimes a simple conversation with me might be all you need.

p.s. if one of your actions is to invest in coaching from one of the UK’s leading career coaches for women in technology, check out the different ways you can work with me HERE.
