“Look at any successful business or X Factor celebrity and you will find struggle. It’s part of the journey.”
I loved this quote today from Bryony Thomas from Watertight Marketing. You may see an overnight success, but very rarely is it an actual ‘overnight’ success. Often that success has been months, years in the making … and very often struggles – ups, downs and sideways in the journey.
I’ve talked about my own struggles in the past. How I turned my business upside down back in September 2014. How I quit my corporate life at Arthur Andersen to avoid burnout. The shame I still feel about self-harming. But now look at me – regularly invited to comment on Sky News and BBC Radio. Articles published in City AM. Quoted in the Evening Standard. Host of 4 successful online conferences … not without struggle.
Bryony was talking to Sue Revell, my co-host from On The Tipping Point, our leadership podcast. She is just one of 13 of the UK’s leading female entrepreneurs joining us for On The Tipping Point LIVE! When Sue and I first came up with the idea of recording a live episode, that idea grew and grew until we’d created a full-on two week live online conference.
Some people thought we were crazy doing all the interviews live. Quite honestly, with my technology background, I thought it would be crazy to pre-record. You lose something of the energy, the engagement, spontaneity if it’s pre-recorded and the conversations are overly rehearsed. We did it our way (well my way, if I’m totally honest. I’m the technology geek out of me and Sue).
When we created our Top 13 of our favourite inspirational business leaders (Sarah Arrow, Lucy Whittington, Suzanne Dibble, Susan Payton to name but a few) – women we have worked with or for or alongside – we expected one or two to say “No sorry I’m not available that week“. That’s why we compiled a list of 13 not 10!
And that’s how we ended up with an incredible schedule. Nobody said no. Everybody said yes.
We are learning so much in each of the interviews. If you’ve missed On The Tipping Point LIVE! it’s not too late to catch up. (The last interview and the prize draw is 8pm Friday 8 December). Because we really want to show all women in business that struggle is part of the journey and that those success tipping points can be overcome, all the interviews are available on catch-up until midnight 11 December.
Find out more about the event and register right here. And if you’re quick, you can put you and your business in the hotseat to benefit from the collective wisdom and insight. An amazing opportunity to tell us who you are and what you do, where you are challenged and we’ll help you figure out how to move forward.
Struggle IS part of the journey. When you accept that, you are half-way to moving beyond it.
