The Confident Mother

Helping ambitious women in technology fully unlock their leadership potential

29th July 2016

Why you need clarity

I love the intake session with my new clients. The first session is always exciting because it’s the start of our relationship. I start to get a feel for what this client really wants. To discover how she ticks; what she’s proud of; what she loves doing; what she hates doing; what her values are; what’s most important to her about being a woman and a mother.

I had offered today’s new client my Back to Work programme but she’s an action-taker like me and didn’t want to wait.

She came to me because she wants clarity and insight into her motivations and priorities so that she can get clear on what she wants from her next career move.

During the session, we outlined a few options:

  • start her own consultancy
  • go into business with somebody else
  • reduced working hours
  • change career
  • change employer
  • move out of London for a simple lifestyle

In her words, “Clarity will be a great springboard” to make the right decisions. She knows that when she has clarity, she’ll be able to make more effective decisions about her career. She’ll understand what compromises she is willing to make. She will feel happier, calmer, more settled in her own mind and more confident in her decision-making.

Whatever decisions she makes, it’s not just her that will notice the benefits. When I asked who else benefits, she mentioned her family, her husband, and her friends. Interestingly, she also pointed out that whatever her final career decision, when she is in the right role for the right client, that client will benefit too.

Right now her head is full of ideas and options, and it’s difficult for her to know what to focus on or where to start narrowing down the options. She had already downloaded my 5 easy steps to identify your values which is something I always explore with clients. In our next sessions we will explore her purpose and later her fears so that she understands what might be holding her back.

I can’t wait for our next session.

The way I see it, clarity is always the first step to confidence. Get clear on what you really want, and you make more effective decisions because you feel more confident. If you want clear confidence, you’ll love my course which starts again in September.

What about you? Where in your life would you like more clarity? Leave a comment below and if you like this post, do share it.

Clarity is a great springboard, once you have clarity you just need to identify the action steps and implement them

Clarity on your current state is so important to planning how you can get to your goal. It is a bit like trying to drive somewhere, but not knowing where you are! Nice post Sherry

Thanks Susan. Yes like your analogy – trying to drive somewhere but not knowing where you are.
